All eyes set on Indian PM (07-07-2008)

The rigidity and never to say die attitude of the PM, in face of the Left onslaught on Indo-US nuclear deal, has made many hopeful of his bold leadership, especially when the task is to lead the nation in international spectrum. The imminent meetings of his with the leaders of the G-8 and Outreach Countries are destined to deliver a new approach and the presence of India in the international community.  This became more evident when in this latest speech Dr. Singh emphasized of his uncompromising resolution to bring to the fore the saga of stiff increase of fuel pries and its deadly effect on the global economy and also the need of joint action by both of producing and consuming nations.

However, the situation has changed largely from the last summit in Germany due to the intensification of global oil prices and has made all feel the necessity to curtail energy use. For these all of climate change, energy security and food security will be in his agenda and his chief intention will be to highlight these issues. Well, it is true that the timely disclosure of the National Action Plan on Climate Change has put in motion both of India’s wise intention and commitment to do something towards this cause.

But how far he can make the world leaders address the quandaries, developmental imperatives and aspirations of developing economies, especially India, remains a question. Nevertheless the recent statement of U.S. President regarding the essential presence of India over any agreement on the rising energy consumption and carbon emissions raises hope.

Withal the PM has to emerge victorious to pander both the sprawling national and international scenario. Or else the Indian aspiration of growing higher and also to get rid of a bellicose Left will be a far cry. All eyes are set on Dr. Singh.
